Spoon {eats} : The Modern Pantry, Clerkenwell

The Spoon team are passionate about breakfast and morning time – it’s a time to reflect and prepare for the day ahead, give your body the sustenance you need and is, according to many, the most productive time of the day.  In this busy and ever fast paced world we live in, living simply is something we aspire to live by.  At Spoon, we take the time in the mornings to complete our most urgent and pressing work –staying focussed on our mission to give everyone a good reason to jump out of bed each morning and ensuring everyone has the chance to try our cereals.

Every month, the Spoon team take a step away from the HQ to visit a different breakfast setting – one that we’ve been meaning to tick off our ever-growing ‘breakfast outings’ list.  By mixing up our morning routines this way, we come away with refreshed minds and creative ideas, which can run dry due to the distractions and mundane tasks we deal with each day.

Ian Sanders calls it his fourth space.

On an early Friday morning, bleary-eyed to match the grey November morning, we arrived at The Modern Pantry in Clerkenwell. The space was open, light and airy, with clean lines and beautiful surfaces, there was a welcoming Friday feeling floating through the air.

The breakfast menu carefully and consciously picks elements of various cuisines of the globe: from eggs with vegemite soldiers, to yuzu hollandaise and hazelnut and macadamia dukkah.

What we ate

E : Two poached organic free range eggs and toast with fried haloumi, slow-roast tomatoes + wilted spinach

J: Sugar-cured New Caledonian prawn omelette, green chilli, spring onion, coriander, smoked chilli sambal + toast

A: Tea smoked salmon, two poached eggs, toasted English muffin, yuzu hollandaise, hazelnut + macadamia dukkah.

All washed down with strong Caravan Coffee Americanos and freshly squeezed orange juice.

Between bites of perfectly poached eggs and spicy smoked chilli sambal, we spoke about future plans, things going on outside of work and reflected on past experiences. We left The Modern Pantry feeling full, invigorated and eager to begin our tasks for the day ahead. The experience made us realise the importance of taking time out to enjoy spending time with one another – cementing relationships and encouraging open-ness within the office environment.

Spoon {eats} : about

Breakfast is fast becoming something that is recognised as integral to a healthy balanced diet and central to most morning rituals. Spoon Cereals is the brainchild of co-owner, Annie who wanted to share her morning ritual with others also looking for a healthy, high quality bowl of cereal in the mornings.

Spoon {eats} is a series that celebrates breakfast in its various forms, whether it’s a quick bowl of granola or a long and drawn out Saturday morning smorgasbord of eggs, toast, jams and more. Our aim for this series is to showcase amazing combinations and ingredients that we come across, which we hope will offer a platform for breakfast inspiration.
