Behind the scenes : The Spoon Breakfast festival

Earlier this summer, we held a 4-day breakfast festival at Studio 2 , Shoreditch to celebrate the re-launch of our two favourite granola products.

We wanted to give everyone a preview of our new packaging, designed by co-founder Annie, and give people the chance to try our tried and tested recipes in the form of fresh and vibrant granola breakfast bowls.

At Spoon we want to celebrate morning time as much as we do breakfast, which is why we spent a great deal of time curating the event with the help of some hugely talented people.

First stop was building a bar from which to serve our granola. We approached Tom and Chris from Kennedy woods, who made the most beautiful bar inspired by the Spoon clean and contemporary style. Little details like our logo, which was etched into the front, revealed hints of recessed wood making the bar that extra bit special. It was also equipped with a shelving unit to display our granolas, and a pop-out table for everyone to gather round and enjoy their breakfast bowls together. The guys were a complete dream to work with and we were amazed at their ability to build the entire thing (don’t ask us how) in two weeks.

What was on the Menu?

(in collaboration with Georgina Davies):

To accompany our granola and the Collective Yoghurt:

Apple, cardamom & pomegranate

Citrus & star anise

Raw carrot & coconut superfood energy balls

Rye squares with avocado, lime & chilli

Mini smoked salmon & dill cream cheese bagels

Almond Milk (The Pressery)

Cold press juice (Botanic Lab)

Speciality Coffee (Noble Espresso)

What else happened?

As well as feeding everyone who came with our breakfast offerings, we also had the likes of Wireless fitness and Pop-up fitness taking pre-breakfast boot camp style classes, a mindfulness session from the team at Calm works and a photography workshop from Issy Croker.

The Spoon lifestyle shop displayed a collection of independent, local brands from the likes of Marina London, Desmond & Dempsey, Milli Taylor cookbook and Toast Magazine – who have been hugely influential in our journey with Spoon.

Many people took to the news lounge area to take in the tranquillity that inspired conversations and ideas throughout each day.

Who came?

We had some incredible speakers at the event to include up and coming food start-up owners: Pippa Murray - Pip&Nut, Natali and Chi - The Pressery, Ben Mason - Mason’s beans  Naomi -LunchBXD and Dom & Oli of the newly opened Scandinavian inspired cafe, Ludenwic.

Plus experts in the health industry:  Julie Montagu - Yoga and nutrition teacher at London's top studios and author of the cookbook ‘Superfoods,’ Harry Jameson - exclusive personal trainer for Esquire UK, Lauren Armes - editor, WellToDo London, Anastasia Dedyukhina - professional coach, start-up mentor and a pioneer of the Consciously Digital concept and Rebekah Hall - co-founder, Botanic Lab.

The event attracted the sought-after food instagrammer, Clerkenwell boy who popped in for a bowl of granola and our hugely supportive investor, Deborah Meaden, who dragged herself out of bed join us in speaking to all the lovely journalists and press that made it down on our VIP morning. Special mention to Gerber communications for helping arrange this.

Thank you so much to everyone that attended from journos, to instragrammers, bloggers and breakfast / morning lovers.

Spoon {behind the scenes}: about

The behind the scenes series is a documentary of our business’ journey, a transparent snapshot into what we do and how we make it work. We hope that the honest reflections will show the rewards and challenges of our business, perhaps even inspiring others to begin their own start-up journey.
